THE WORKSHOP AT MACY'S
To date, the most significant demonstration of my expertise is the authorship and executive direction of The Workshop at Macy’s program. Launched in 2011 and conducted annually in New York City, the program’s mission is to mentor and foster growth with up-and-coming minority and women-owned businesses.
Game changing and unprecedented in its efforts to level the playing field for women and minority merchandise vendors, The Workshop at Macy’s is equal parts; training and sourcing vehicle for innovative design talent. A first of its kind, the program was designed, in partnership with Babson College, the nation's leading business school for entrepreneurship, to assist high potential entities in their quest to sustain successful partnerships in the retail industry. The program fills an educational void by providing diverse businesses access to information, experts in the field, and tools to take their business to the next level.
Over the past eight years, 111 businesses have successfully graduated from the one-week immersion program -- ranging from cosmetics companies to confectioneries, home textiles, and ready-to-wear designers. 14% have launched in Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and/or both. Lastly, in 2018, under my leadership the program launched its first branded micro-site featuring the products of Workshop at Macy’s alums on macys.com.
Skills sets exemplified: strategic planning, content composition, creative direction (marketing/advertising strategy, web development, digital/media planning), mastery in execution, facilitation, and a deep commitment to fostering economic growth within diverse communities.
